As a kid, I always LOVED babies. I was the neighborhood nanny as a pre-teen, and had a natural instinct to be nurturing. In 2014, I gave birth to my first child at the young age of 21. My birth experience was quite traumatic and postpartum was ROUGH. I decided that this is not how becoming a parent should feel. I researched resources in my area for new parents and learned what a doula was! I took my first training in 2015 and the rest is history.
I gave birth to my daughter in 2016 and had another traumatic birth, this time at the fault of no one. I was so lucky to be surrounded by amazing midwives and a doula who held my hand and supported me every step of the way. This experience inspired me to launch my doula agency, La Bella Birth and Baby.
Since then, I have mentored many aspiring and new doulas. Helping people navigate the birth world, especially at the beginning of their doula career, is a huge passion of mine. That's why I created The Doula College!
My doula training organization was still new when I first became a doula, and while the information was great, the support was not. I felt like my training was too business focused, and not enough PERSON focused. This training organization claimed to be "compassionate" and "non-judgmental", but over time, I saw many of their leaders proceed to judge and shame doulas who didn't practice the same way they did. This is why I created The Doula College. Here, not only can you can learn all about pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum, but you can learn all about the different ways you can practice as a doula too. There is no one size fits all - and that's okay! I'm here to guide you as you figure out which path is best for you.
The Doula College curriculum is a perfect blend of childbirth education, hand-on training, networking with local providers, and business support. When you finish training with me, you'll be mad you didn't find me sooner.
When you have a dream, you've got to grab it and never let go.
